Print, framed
Black and white print, framed and glazed; original painting by H. Williams in 1912; shows Howell Harris, William Williams and Daniel Rowlands, among others seated on a settle, with tridan and long case clock in background.
This lithograph, entitles 'Y Sasiwn Gyntaf (the First Association), 1743' is a more recent depiction of a meeting held during the formative years of the Calvinistic Methodist Church in Wales and includes three of the main figures associated with the revival: Howell Harris, Daniel Rowland and William Williams.
The original painting dates to 1912 and is by Hugh Williams. It's not known who commissioned him to paint it but it was reproduced commercially as a colour lithograph. Wales saw another wave of religious enthusiasm during this period after the 1904 Evan Roberts reviva, 'the last great revival'. Images of past revivals were used as religious propaganda to keep this febvour alight.
