Quilt
Large wholecloth quilt from Hendrehedog Fawr, Carmarthenshire. Made in about 1860-80 from flannel woven from the farm's own wool.
Red flannel cover (top and bottom) in plain tabby weave. Carded wool filling. Cover fabric seamed down centre, with edges hand-stitched (stitching rotted in several places). Quilting pattern consists of a large central rectangular panel of quilting entirely filled with diamonds, each in turn filled with alternate spirals and four leaf motifs. Inner border of larger four leaf motifs with spiral fillings. Quarter fan in each corner filled with spirals and small leaves. Outer boarder filled with spiral, trellis or wave and leaf. Gound in outer border filled with spirals and three leaf motifs. Veined leaf in each corner. Pattern is very clear in some places, but not in others where threads have disappeared.
