Cup, earthware, spreading foot-rim, curving sodes, everted lip-rim, plain loop handle; transfer-printed in blue with 'The Rhine' pattern on exterior sides of cup, an Italianate landscape showing an expanse of water surrounded by trees and Italianate buildings with several small buildings in the foreground, a similar scaled-down version of the same design in the interior bottom of the cup, a border to the interior lip-rim composed of two bands of geometric lines and scrolls, with a central band of arcades between them, a running border of straight and curving lines to the handle. Saucer, earthenware, rounded foot-rim, dish-shaped body with curving sides; transfer-printed with 'The Rhine' pattern as on the cup, the same border to the rim as on the cup.
