MARY EVANS, full hull ship model
Full hull ship model of the MARY EVANS, a sailing ship of the type built on the River Dyfi.
The MARY EVANS was built in 1867, partially of Montgomeryshire oak, by John Evans of Morben, Derwen-las, Montgomeryshire. John Evans was a prominent timber merchant, shipbuilder and owner in the area at the time and the vessel was named after his wife. The ship traded worldwide with her second voyage taking her from Liverpool to Valparaiso in Chile. She was damaged in a collision off the Brazilian coast in 1887 and ended her days as a coaling hulk at Rio de Janeiro.
