Ice-cream pail and cover
Ice-cream pail, hybrid paste porcelain, the body in two sections, the lower section pail-shaped, standing on a spreading waisted foot with several raised bands around the waist, straight sides flaring towards the rim, a beaded band around the lower body, to either side of the body twin angular horizontal handles, the upper section with short concave sides tapering inwards, a band of beading around the lower body, to either side of the body twin scroll handles with foliate moulding around the terminals, round domed cover with to the centre a pine-cone finial, a beaded band around the top of the cover; the ice-cream pail covered all over with pink lustre against which are reserved transfer-printed in grey and white, around the exterior sides of the lower section a classical scene of warrior figures holding swords and shields, and with horses and chariots, against a desert-like backdrop with pyramids, a Greek key-shape border around the exterior upper body of the lower section, to the exterior sides of the upper section two groups of classical spears, shields and harps, around the sides of the cover a Greek key-shape border, gilt edges to the rims of the upper and lower sections and the cover, the handles and finial covered in gilt. The upper section and cover broken and repaired.
