Cage descending at Glyn Pits, Pontypool in about 1902-1905). The two men standing on top of the cage are probably shaftsmen commencing their daily statutory inspection. They are dressed in waterproof clothing to protect them against water in the shaft. In the second shaft in the background can be seen the flat wire rope used for winding at Glyn Pits.
