Dressing box
Dressing box, tin-plate, rectangular form with straight sides and hinged lid with fastening hasp, the interior of the box divided into three smaller compartments (one of which is divided into two again) and a larger compartment into which fits a removeable tray itself divided into four different compartments, one of which contains a removeable partition; the underside and interior of the box covered with a black japan, the underside of the lid and the tray covered with a translucent crimson japan, the exterior of the box covered with a dark crimson japan and decorated in silver to whichh the varnish has given a golden tinge with lines and around the lid borders of stars and intersecting loops. Inside the dressing box fit the following items: Two lead glass bottles of rectangular form with short necks and stoppers. A white earthenware cylindrical pot with covert, the exterior transfer-printed in underglaze blue with a wide floral border around the sides and an oriental landscape with mountains, buildings and figures to the cover. The pot and cover do not appear to match. A white earthenware tray of rectangular form with straight sides, the interior divided into two compartments and transfer-printed in underglaze blue with flower and scroll borders.
