A large coasting fleet whose vessels were to be seen regularly at Cardiff was that owned by John Kelly Ltd. of Belfast. Founded by Samuel Kelly in the 1840s, the company relied on sailing vessels until they acquired their first steamer in 1890, The 581 gross ton steam coaster Carrickmore was built at Aberdeen in 1925 and she is seen here approaching the Queen Alexandra lock, c. 1936. In 1948, the company was acquired jointly by William Cory & Sons and Powell Duffryn, though it was on]y late in 1990 that the four remaining Kelly vessels were fully integrated into the Powell Duffryn fleet.

(581gt) : Built 1925 by John Lewis & Sons, Aberdeen for John Kelly Ltd., Belfast (managed by John Clint). Renamed BALLEYDENE in 1952 (still owned by John Kelly). She was broken up in the Irish Republic in 1958.
