Late Bronze Age bronze casting jet
Single runner casting jet. Complete and well preserved single runner casting jet, oval to teardrop shaped in plan. On one side, the reservoir is convex and trumpet shaped in side profile, whilst on the other it is concave and is undercut. The upper reservoir surface is rough and uneven, dipping slightly at the centre, and the lower surfaces are uneven in shape. The lowest 12mm section of the jet is smooth and deliberately moulded into a semi-circular tapering runner form, with a distinct line separating it from the uneven surfaces of the base of the reservoir. The upper end of a narrow casting flash, some 9mm long, adheres to the side of the runner in a strip 4mm wide, indicating insertion between two mould pieces here. The jet has a dark green patina.
