Roman stone decorated slab
The slab is broken along the top. Much of the decorated surface has gone, having split along a cleavage in the stone, and there are peck-marks on the underlying surface. Along the bottom are the remains of a groove where the slab has been cut to size with the use of a chisel. The front face of the slab is divided down the centre by two slight rounded mouldings, and decorated with incised running scrolls along both the vertical edges. The back of the slab has been left rough. The slab may have been employed as wall-lining.
