An American-built 'Lectra Haul' dumper truck being unloaded from the purpose-built self handling vessel UNIT SCAN at Barry Docks.

The 60-ton vehicle was one of eleven (costing £100,000 each and capable of carrying 100 tons) to be operated under contract to the National Coal Board to work a local opencast site where they would be employed in removing 200 million tons of overburden to access coking coal for the steel industry.
