Medieval lead ampulla
The ampulla is fragmentary, represented by the base of the body only (with a surviving length of 17.1mm and a weight of 9.1g). The body base is partially open and has a maximum width of 29.7mm and a thickness of 8.0mm. The obverse face is convex and is decorated with the scallop motif, representing the emblem of pilgrimage, and has three surviving bold and curved ribs, which would have produced a corrugated effect, of Spencer (1990, p59), Type I.. The reverse face is flat and plain with a bevelled edge.
