Quilt
Wholecloth quilt made by Winifred Williams at Maerdy Workmen's Hall, late 1930s, at a quilting class taught by a teacher from Maes-yr-haf Education Settlement.
Made from plain woven cotton fabrics, yellow on one side and blue on the other side. Both pieced in five sections, all joined by machine in white cotton thread. Fabric makers stamp on blue side. The wadding is possibly a sheet or a thin blanket as it is quite flat and dense. Quilting pattern: central square featuring four leaves arranged in a diamond shape with a diamond row border. Fans in the corners, surrounded by a border of stylised flowers. There is also a flower in each corner of the quilt with a trellis pattern in between. Zig-zag outer border. The edges are turned back, positioned with wrong sides facing and top stitched by hand.
