Blanket
Welsh woollen blanket used at Marshfield, between East Cardiff and Newport, by a family of tenant farmers at Lower Pentwyn Farm
Woollen blanket with bird eye twill pattern, constructed of two halves which are butt-joined with a vertical seam along selvages on either side. One half has cream warps and black wefts. The other half also has cream warps and black wefts, however, one 65 x 90cm section of that half of the blanket has brown wefts, instead. Down the side edges of the blanket, there is a stripe using dark navy warps. This stripe is c.9cm wide on one, and c.7cm wide on the other side (the one that has the brown section). All edges have a single turn-back; side edges are machine stitched in place using brown thread, whereas upper and lower edges are hand stitched using wool thread. Yarns are 2-ply, S-twist.
