Biscuit porcelain bust of a long-haired middle-aged man wearing a buff coat, gorget and collar, and with a pendant badge on a ribbon, a glazed pedestal in the form of a fluted column, with a moulded spreading base; the flutes decorated in green and gilded, floral trails and swags within the borders to top and base. Maarten Harpertzoon Tromp (1598 - 1653), Dutch Admiral who destroyed a Spanish fleet at Gravelines in 1639 and fell in the first Anglo-Dutch war. After a posthumous portrait by Aert Schouman (1710 - 1792) based on Jan Lievens (1607 - 1674), engraved by Jacobus Houbraken (1698 - 1780)
