Jug, earthenware, standing on a rounded slightly spreading foot-rim, the lower body flaring out to a raised band around the middle of the jug then tapering gently inwards to a cylindrical neck, elongated beak spout with a moulded lozenge pattern in relief to its underside and foliate moulding to its base, scroll and spur loop handle with raised thumb-spur; transfer-printed in black with to one side of the exterior body a head and shoulder portrait of the young Queen Victoria with a crown hovering above and surrounded by the inscription "VICTORIA REGINA / Crowned 28 of June 1838. / Born 24th of May 1819. Proclaimed 29th of June 1837", to the other side of the exterior body a symbolic design with to the centre a shield-shape divided into four quarters and containing two figures, a horn and a beehive, to the top of the shield a sitting cow and a cross, and to either side a male and female figure carrying banners, a star in a radiant halo hovers above the design, on the banners, across the shield and on a scrolling banner to the bottom of the design is printed the inscription "SOBRIETY / DOMESTIC / COMFORT / FREEDOM / TEMPERANCE / BE THOU FAITHFUL UNTO DEATH", pink lustre bands around the foot-rim and the middle of the body, a pink lustre band between two green enamel bands to the exterior lip-rim, the spout outlined in pink lustre, a pink lustre anthemion and further pink lustre markings to the handle.
