Bowl, earthenware, cylindrical foot-rim and rounded curving sides; transfer-printed in black and overpainted in red, yellow and green enamels with around the exterior body firstly a scene showing a male figure, a female figure and two children in a rural landscape with a sailing ship on the sea in the distance, below the scene is the inscription "SAILORS. FAREWELL. / Sweet, Oh! Sweet is that Sensation. / Where two hearts in union meet. / But the Pain of Separation. / Mingles bitter with the sweet.", next is the inscription "Too oft is a Smile. / But the Hypocrites wile. / To mask detestation or fear. / Give me the soft sigh. / Whilst the soul telling eye. / Is dim'd for a time with a tear." enclosed within a wreath of flowers and foliage and with a small sailing ship to the top, and next is a design composed of the crossed flags of England and France and a laurel wreath and across the top the inscription "GOD SAVE THE QUEEN / MAY THEY EVER BE UNITED / VIVE L'EMPEREUR" on a scrolling banner, these three designs are interspersed with washes of pink lustre, a pink lustre edge to the lip-rim.
