Early Medieval copper alloy strip
Binding strip or bracket, originally 'L' shaped, with a pair of rivet-holes in each arm of the 'L'. It is not easy to see how this strip was intended to be fixed. The right hand arm has its holes punched from above and one edge is bent over, so presumably this ran along the upper edge of a piece of wood or other material; but the left hand arm is flat in section and has its holes punched from below so that it is most reasonable to think of it as attached tothe underside. It is not inconceiveable that this is a strengthening piece from a wooden box. We could consider that the piece has been pulled off whatever it was attached to and this has damaged the hole through which it was attached. NMB2004.
