Plant, James (Believed to have been born in the 'Potteries', and was listed by R.W.Binns as a painter at the Chamberlains' Worcester works. He went to London in 1808 and was employed by John Sims, 5 Fields Row, Pimlico, London, later working on his own account.
Known for figure and landscape painting on porcelain, in particular groups of children.)
Plate, soft-paste porcelain; standing on a tapered foot rim, curving into slightly cushion moulded and straight spreading sides; lobed lip moulded with c-scrolls and ribbon-tied flowers and foliage; painted in the centre in polychrome enamels with a young couple embracing, the boy wearing a red outfit with a purple sash and brown hat, the girl wearing a blue skirt and yellow over-dress, gathered to hold fruit; a landscape vignette within each c-scroll moulding, three coastal scenes, one view of a bridge, one of a ruined castle, and one of a man walking along a road; gilt scrolled and dotted border to cavetto, moulding detailed in gilt, and gilt lip.
