Meat dish, of lobed rectangular form, standing on a flat base, cushion-moulded sides forming a shallow rounded oblong central well, wide, up-curving concave rim moulded in eight lobes, alternating large and small; transfer-printed in pale blue with the 'Damask Border' pattern; in the centre, two male figures in Renaissance style dress in an Italianate landscape, behind them, Italianate buildings, peaked mountains, a viaduct or bridge, the figures surrounded by rocks, foliage and small trees, the whole within a scalloped egg and dart effect border made up of semi-circles and triangles, the cavetto and inner rim with the Damask effect pattern, made up of closely spaced meandering and undulating lines giving the effect of Damask or watered silk, the outer rim with highly ornate scrolled foliate cartouches with dotted pale blue grounds, two with a reindeer pulling a male figure in a sled, two of a hunter with a dog and a large bow, two with a hunter with a rifle, lying on the ground and looking toward fir trees, all the scenes suggesting snowy, Arctic conditions with one further smaller cartouche with a running dog.
