Street scene in Staffordshire. This bustling scene outside colliery premises shows the coal hoists and tips delivering coal into merchants' carts in a busy street. The kilns in the background locates the scene in the Potteries. In the foreground some young urchins with their various containers are waiting for the activity to end, to allow them to glean the spillage coal.
