Roman samian bowl
Several sherds. The large square ovolo has a tongue with a hammer tip; it is Rogers B 206, and was used by Paternus and a number of associated potters. The panel borders are fine wavy lines, and small seven petalled rosettes are used as junctions. Rogers C 281 in S&S appears to match ours. Other details are an astragaulus, perhaps Roger R 15, and a shuttlecock, Rogers G 259 but again, the illustration in S&S matches more precisely. There is a lion walking to the left, O.1425, a small triton on a pillar, O.25 and part of another figure. The style is broadly that of the Quintilianus group of potters. In particular, vessels such as S&S 1958, pl. 69: 9 and 14 have much in common with this bowl. S&S 1958, pl. 69: 9 has a signature of Ianuaris, but this may not be a true mouldmaker's signature.
Dr 37 is a hemispherical decorated bowl
