Undated stone spindle whorl
Decorated stone spindlewhorl of Iron Age, Romano-British or Medieval date. This near circular spindlewhorl is made of a sedimentary fine-grained sandstone or mudstone. The decoration comprises radial linear grooves around both faces and along a section of the circumference. In addition, there are circular drilled dots (0.5-2mm) diameter, placed apparently at randon into sections of both upper and lower faces. The central perforation has been drilled as indicated by the hourglass shaped profile and even smooth sides. Though near circular in shape, the circumference has slightly flattened facets or faces, though with curved rather angular edges.
