Papal Bull of Medieval date, probably of late 12th to mid 13th century date The bull is incomplete and is represented by approximately half with a width of 21.81mm. The bull had a diameter of 40.69mm and has a maximum thickness of 5.85mm. Across the break is a clear groove, indicating the position of the sealing cord. The bull is fairly eroded, particularly on the obverse face. The bull fragment weighs 23.7g. The obverse of the bull has the head of Saint Peter, surrounded by a beaded border with the letters: S P E The reverse has the letters: I N C E N T . P P . I The remains of the inscription indicate that the bull was likely to have been issued by either Pope Innocent III or IV. The papacy of Pope Innocent III (Lotario) ran from January 8th 1198 to July 16th 1216 The papacy of Pope Innocent IV (Sinibaldo Fieschi) ran from June 25th 1243 to December 7th 1254 From Report by Mark Lodwick
