Photograph of a painting showing a ¾ starboard broadside view of the four masted barque MARLBOROUGH HILL.
(2531gt) : Built 1885 by W.H. Potter & Son, Liverpool, for W. Price & Co., also of Liverpool. 1911- Sold to Robert Mattson, Mariehamn. During World War 1, she was stopped by a U-boat, smashed both her lifeboats while attempting to comply with the U-boat's order to abandon ship, and on signalling "What shall I do?", was surprisingly allowed to continue her voyage! She was rigged with sky sails over royal sails, double top and topgallants, making her the fastest in the 1921 "Grain Races". 1924 - Sold to Soc. Anon. Ferreira, Montanella, to be broken up. 1925 - Broken up in Italy.
