Roman glass beaker
Rim fragment of a beaker of clear colourless glass. Rim slightly flared and ground smooth, with two horizontal wheel-cut lines beneath. Top of trailed decoration surviving, in the form of arcaded vertical ribbing with a diameter of approximately 8.5 cms.
This fragment is characteristic of a form known as the 'arcaded beaker'. Dated examples belong to the Flavian period, with possible continuation into the early second century. British finds are not common, but a fragment (32.62/9.61) was found at Jenkins Field I, Caerleon. [Allen, 1990 Unpublished report]
