Examination paper
An examination paper for prospective quarry stewards. This examination paper was taken by Mr Owen William Humphreys during October 1946 when he applied to become a quarry steward. Mr Owen William Humphreys was forced to leave his work in the quarry during the Second World War, but three months after he returned to the quarry he saw a notice in the quarry office recruiting new stewards. Mr Owen William Humphreys was among thirty applicants who applied to be quarry stewards; and was only one of six who were successful. He became a steward in 1946. Mr Owen William Humphreys first worked as a steward at Ponc Isaf Braich. He was then moved to Muriau (or Lower Wellington as that section of the quarry was also known), and then to the section of the quarry known as Lower Garrett. He remained a quarry steward until August 1969 when Dinorwig Quarry closed. The examination paper consists to ten questions. The candidates were given an hour and a half to try and answer all the questions.
