S.S. ST ROSARIO, glass negative
Starboard broadside view of S.S. ST ROSARIO, at Cardiff Docks, 8 October 1947.
The South American Saint Line had its origins in two separate companies both established in 1926. They were amalgamated to form the B. & S. Shipping Co. Ltd. in 1933 under the management of Richard Street. Street's ambition was to establish a regular cargo line to the River Plate, and a number of vessels were acquired in the late 1930s. One of these was the 4,312 gross ton St Rosario, built at Sunderland in 1937 and seen here at Cardiff in October 1947. Sold to Swedish owners in 1952, she was cut up in 1969.
