King George IV seated facing sinister on a carved and panelled throne with high back, crowned and wearing the badge and chain of an order; in his left hand an orb surmounted by a small cross, in his right hand a sceptre; his feet rest on the double steps of the throne. To the left side of the monarch are two uncertain figures in classical robes (conjectured by Birch to represent Justice and Mercy, to his right hand, at rear of the throne, a third figure (interpreted as Wisdom); in front of the king stand three figures representing three of the kingdoms of Britain: Britannia, Caledonia and Hibernia; overhead: the royal coat of arms encircled with the Garter bearing its motto, and surmounted by crown; in exergue: a lion couchant. No legend, in its place a wreath of oak leaves, acorns, laurel leaves, berries, etc.
