Cymric Buildings, Cardiff, negative
Exterior view of Cymric Buildings, West Bute Street, Cardiff. Cymric Buildings was built in 1911 (architect Henry Budgen) originally as a Post Office Telephone Exchange, but was acquired in 1939 by the Great Western Railway Company as offices for their local docks and railway departments. In 1961, the railway side of the operation moved to premises near Cardiff General Station and the newly formed British Transport Docks Board (following the 1962 Transport Act) bought the building from British Railways. By 1975, the building housed the main offices of the Docks Manager, Docks Accountant and the Materials Controller as well as the South Wales divisional office of the British Transport Police.
