Holywell Hunt coat. Belonged to the Morgan family of Golden Grove, Flintshire.
Identical to 68.377, from Golden Grove, Flintshire
Long frock coat made from red woollen fabric (tabby woven with raised nap) & red velvet collar (faded to pale apricot colour); sleeves are lined with white tabby-woven linen fabric; 9cm wide turnback at cuffs. Front and sides of tails partly lined with red wool fabric (same as outer); rear not lined. 9 gold-coloured buttons on proper right side with matching buttonholes on other side, each of these surrounded by decorative stitching using gilt metal thread. Similar metal thread embroidery on velvet collar. 4 further buttons on tail: 2 at top, 2 at bottom; upper 2 buttons are reinforced with semi-circular pieces of red woollen fabric as well as white tabby linen fabric stitched to inside; plain cuffs; flap pockets on either side of hip with concealed button closure (button missing on proper left side); pockets lined with white tabby linen fabric; 2 layers of red wool fabric (same as outer) and one layer of fawn-coloured woollen fabric used as interlining underneath semi-circular strip of red wool fabric lining, surrounding rear neck. Red fabric is mainly worked with raw edges (no turn-backs). Pleats on either side of vent are stitched in three places to keep them in position.
