Sauce-tureen and cover
Sauce tureen, earthenware, standing on an oblong spreading waisted foot-rim, oblong body with slightly flaring sides, to either end of the body twin horizontal curved shell-shaped handles with a moulded leaf below, oblong domed cover with flat collar-like rim and to the top an oblong mushroom-shaped finial, an indent to one side of the rim of the cover, two large chips missing from either side of the cover; transfer-printed in blue with to the exterior sides of the tureen and the top of the cover the 'Ladies of Llangollen' pattern, in the foreground two female figures on horseback and a male figure on foot by the side of a river with cattle standing in it, in the background a rural landscape with hills, trees, a village and a castle, a scaled down version of the same pattern to the interior bottom of the tureen, a border to the interior lip-rim of the tureen and the rim of the cover of festooned flowers and foliage interspersed with stylized spiders' webs issuing pendant garlands of flowers and foliage all on a blue ground, the handles and finial covered with a stippled blue ground.
