Late Bronze Age bronze plate
Domed and decorated plate fragment. Small and worn fragment of plate with protruding nipple and concentric circle decoration. The plate is domed, the nipple forming the apex of the dome, which has a radius of 10mm. The decoration appears to have been cast rather than hammered. The remaining portion of surviving plate has a rounded corner with sides meeting at an angle of a little under 90 degrees, raising the possibility that the dome was at the centre of a square or rectangular shaped plate, with sides some 38-40mm in length. This cannot be proven, since no original edges survive. It is possible that the fragment was part of a much larger item and that this angle of breakage was entirely fortuitous. The plate has a dark green patina.
