This work is a maquette for William Pye's sculpture 'Mirage' 1972 which formed part of the Peter Stuyvesant Foundation funded 'City Sculpture Project' 1972. For a period of 6 months large-scale works were installed in busy urban centres across the UK. In Cardiff 'Mirage' was installed adjacent to Cardiff Castle with photographs of the work featuring in a special issue of the journal Studio International dedicated to the City Sculpture Project. The other work installed in Cardiff as part of the project was Garth Evans, Untitled (1972) which was installed on The Hayes on a temporary basis and is now sited in the grounds of Charnwood School, Leicester. A billboard proposal by Keith Arnatt 'I am an artist, I am not an artist' was rejected by the City Sculpture Project committee.
