Stand or plinth for the Mitchell-Hedges silver trophy (the vase presented by the county of Denbigh to Sir Watkin Williams-Wynn in 1816, NMW A 51210); solid oval drum-shaped form, underside unpainted showing screwheads, the rest ebonised, standing on shallow stepped foot, with an overhanging concave stepped rim, and a plain oval platform. Front applied with four large rectangular silver plaques: to left engraved with winners of the National First Aid Competition 1949-1967; centre a longer plaque inscribed along bottom with 'THIS TROPHY...' etc. (see inscriptions) and with a centrally placed medallion above, separately applied, and embossed and chased with a design of a man tending a miner on a stretcher, to left and right an identical shield in relief supported on either side by lions rampant, enamelled with the arms of the National Coal Board (three lozenges, party per fesse argent and sable) resting on a green ground with a scroll inscribed 'E TENEBRIS EXIT' (?). Two further plaques to right, the inner engraved with winners 1968-88, the outer with winners 1989-94.
