Colour photograph taken at the official opening of the European Commission Office in Wales, 2 May 2002. The Office was located at 2 Caspian Point, Cardiff Bay, having previously been situated on Cathedral Road, Cardiff. Pictured left to right: Rhodri Morgan AM, First Minister of Wales; Paul Murphy MP, Secretary of State for Wales; Romano Prodi, President of the European Commission; Neil Kinnock, Vice-President of the European Commission.
Acquired from the European Commission Office in Wales following its closure in Feburary 2020. On 31 January 2020, the United Kingdom left the European Union. As a result, the European Commission Representation in the UK ceased all activities on 1 February 2020, meaning that its Office in Wales closed. The closure of the EC Office in Wales marked the end of a 44 year presence in Cardiff (1976-2020).
