Silver chape from a scabbard, 16th century date.
The chape is shaped into a flattened cone, oval in cross-section with a closed tapered tip. It is formed of silver sheet, with a join line visible on the front side. The top of the chape is open and the edges flat with the exception of two small uniform undulating depressions at the back. The is little decoration except for a faint raised horizontal band just below the top edge.
There is decoation on the back side, possibly a repeated diamond pattern, which is now obscured by two rnged lugs and further solder marks. One of the lugs holds a circular suspension loop.
