Iron Age human remains
This is a well preserved skeleton with over 75% completeness.
The individual was a middle adult (25-25 years old) who was female.
She was buried in a crouched position oriented northwest-southeast, crouching on their left side with their head facing northwest. She was buried in a simple pit intersecting the terminus of curvilinear ditch G43. Radiocarbon dating on a rib fragment returned a Middle Iron Age date of 355-57 cal BC.
The remains had an circular area of green discoloration near the chest region which could have been caused by a corroded brooch.
Her teeth showed evidence of calculus, cavities, slight periodontal disease and a dental abscess. She also had signs of dental enamel hypoplasia, indiciating early childhood stress.
She had a mild oseophyte formation around the head of the left humerus. Degenerative joint disease of the shoulder joint is rare unless there is a history of trauma. She had a Poirier's Facet on the right femur. The burial is associated with SK12
