This oak tester bed is known as the Plymouth bed, as it once belonged to the Plymouth family of St Fagans Castle. The tester and headboard have been made from seventeenth century carved panels, possibly from an overmantel, and made into a bed during the nineteenth century. A photograph taken during the 1890s shows that the bed was then situated in one of the bedrooms at St Fagans Castle and it is thought that it was probably brought there during the 1850s when the house was refurbished for Robert Windsor Clive and his new wife. Full tester bed with panelled roof and arcaded headboard, surmounted by three figures of putti. Baluster front posts are carved with foliage and gadroons, the carvings mainly 17th century.
