Coat-type smock in bleached linen, embroidered with linen thread. Worn by N. Bedford Williams and his uncle when acting as livestock judges in the Kerry sheep sales, and other fairs in the Montgomeryshire area, during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Eight button fastening (assortment of bone and mother-of-pearl). Small collar and two large flap collars. Two button opening at cuffs. Two flapped pockets. The smocking stitches are outline, wave, double cable and double wave. The embroidery designs are feather stitch outlines on collar and down the side panels. The large flap collars are chain embroidered with hearts and diamonds. The front button tab is decorated with chain stitched leaves.
