Awarded to William Owen for assisting to resue the crew of the shipwrecked ‘Hermine’ at Porth-y-garan, Holy Island in 1890.
The barque Hermine, registered in Liverpool, was en route from Peru to Liverpool with a cargo of sugar when she was wrecked at Porth-y-garan, Holy Island, off the Isle of Anglesey.
‘A silver medal each to William Owen and Evan Owen, for having, at some risk, assisted to rescue the crew of the barque “Hermine”, 16 in all, the said vessel having been wrecked in foggy weather on the rocks near Rhoscolyn, Holyhead Island on the 16th June, 1890.’ (From the Society’s 52nd Annual Report, for the year ended 1st July 1891)
