A wooden last used by a clogmaker to shape the leather uppesr of clogs. At the front of the last the toe has a greater curving upturn than on shoe lasts, known as a 'toe spring'.This makes the wearing of the clog, with its solid wooden sole, easier by rocking the clog from heel to toe. Wooden lasts came in standard sizes and shapes as close fits were not required by clog wearers. The leather uppers were taken off the lasts before being nailed to the wooden soles.
