A tranquil scene is recorded in this view of the Porthrepta approaching the Queen Alexandra lock on 8 December 1947. She was owned by Care Lines, established at Cardiff in 1920 by Richard Penberthy Care. This 643 gross ton coaster was built at Glasgow in 1922. S.S. PORTHREPTA (643gt). Steam coaster built 1922 as KYANITE by Yarrow Shipbuilders, Scotstoun, for William Robertson, Glasgow. 1939 – Sold to Care Lines Ltd., Cardiff, and renamed PORTHREPTA. Richard Penberthy Care formed “Care Lines”c.1920. He ran no more than two ships at a time – most prefixed “PORTH . .“. The company divided in 1955 – Care Lines Ltd managing PORTHREPTA, and R.P. Care Ltd., managing CARBIS BAY. 1954 – Sold to Holderness Steamship Co., Hull, and renamed HOLDERNETT. She was broken up at Grays, Essex in 1955.
