Decorated with zig zag and ladder patterns in sgraffito under a rich brown glaze. One end is missing, the other has a wedge of clay added to it to enable the implement to be stood on end. A scar suggests that it might have had a loop handle springing from it. These features suggest a certain similarity to an old-fashioned 'flat iron', but it might be argued that it lacks weight for this purpose
