Civil Defence Corps Food Flying Squad armband. Made from two pieces of yellow twill cotton, sewn together to give it double-thickness. Machine-embroidered inscription in blue capital letters with a crown above (in blue, red, white and green). Tapered at proper right side into a narrow tab which feeds into a corresponding steel buckle. Fastened with two sharp prongs. Buckle is marked 'BRITISH'. Armband has rectangular stamp on reverse with the following code: A.W.H. CD/127E 54.
The Civil Defence Corps, established by the Civil Defence Act 1948, was a civilian volunteer organisation created to mobilise and take local control in the aftermath of a major national emergency. Civil Defence organisations were officially disbanded in 1968.
