Map samplers were produced in their thousands in the late 1700s and early 1800s, combining the dual purpose of a geography lesson and sewing practice.

A map of England and Wales, with the coastline and counties outlined in chenille' In the top right hand corner is the figure of Britannia and the inscription: “A MAP of ENGLAND & WALES."
