Carefully constructed cast copper alloy decorative vessel escutcheon in the form of a boar. The boar has its front legs extending forward beneath its mouth forming a V-shape, the mouth is open and contains a small circular hole. The snout end has signs of wear and is perforated through the side before a moulded tusk, possibly to house a ring attached to a handle. The hole in the mouth and the perforation through the snout do not meet. The eyes are incised and lentoid in form. The crest is erect and carries incised and possibly punched decoration to depict the hair. The crest and back arc to meet another arc from the interior, the opposite side of the interior is flat and is also shorter. The longer arced side has a V-shaped recess, presumably to carry solder to attach the escutcheon to the vessel rim. It is generally in good condition, but one leg has broken in antiquity.
