Casgliadau Arlein

Large bowl, pale buff earthenware, standing on a broad tapered cylindrical foot ring; the sides gently curved, then rising steeply; the whole covered in a pale-blue tin-glaze; to the exterior sides in underglaze blue, the hind-quarters and lower body of a dragon, consisting of two back legs and one front or intermediary and tail, the body scaled, the feet with long talons, the tail long and sinuous; surrounded by cloud-type motifs and stylized foliage; to the interior, seemingly a continuation of the same creature, descending from the lip rim, close, but not conjoined to the termination of the body represented on the exterior; the body again scaled, the head with open mouth exposing large teeth, elaborately ruffed neck, large fore-legs, one raised and with the foot clutching a globe; again surrounded by chinoiserie-type devices of clouds and foliage.
