The 2,831 gross ton steam Collier Lambtonian was completed at Sunderland in 1942 for the Tanfield Steamship Co. Ltd. of Newcastle, the shipping arm of the Lambton and Hetton Collieries Ltd. During the war she acted as commodore ship on 111 East Coast convoys, and she was also in the first merchant convoy to France on D-Day. She was sold to Stephenson Clarke of London in 1952 and was broken-up at Dunstan in 1960. In this view, she is seen arriving at Cardiff with a deck cargo of pit wood. S.S. LAMBTONIAN (2818gt). Built 1942 by S.P. Austin & Son, Sunderland for Tanfield Steamship Co. Ltd. 1953 – Sold to Stephenson, Clarke. She was broken up at Dunston-on-Tyne in March 1960.
