Sash worn by Rosemary James (1930-2019) when she was crowned Miss Llyswen, 1950s. Diagonal red, white and blue stripes. Fringe at both ends. A strip of white ribbon has been machine-stitched to one side, with 'Miss Llyswern' hand painted in red.
Sash made from stiff tabby woven synthetic ribbon, printed diagonal stripes of red and blue on white ground; separate white synthetic twill-woven fabric (L43.7 x W6.7cm) with hand-inscribed lettering (using red paint) applied to ribbon with machine stitches using white thread. Red, white and blue fringe at ends: each strand consisting of 2 strands of cotton which are wrapped in red/white/blue silk floss, resulting in a chevron pattern. Sash is machine stitched together in such a way that it can be worn draped diagonally across the chest, i.e. the stitches are under the left arm.
